LARE Registration Check List


Registration for the LARE exam can seem complicated but it does not have to be that way. Follow this easy checklist.
  1. Decide what state you want to seek landscape architecture registration in.  It makes a difference since some states have different requirements.
  2. Check to see if you are qualified to take the LARE exam.
  3. Create a CLARB record on the CLARB website.
  4. If CLARB administers the LARE test in your state, they you can register for the test at the same time.  CLARB administers the LARE exam in the following states: Arizona, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Indiana, Kansas, Maine, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, New Jersey, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, and Washington.
  5. If you are registering to take the LARE for a state where CLARB does not administer all parts of the LARE or your state has additional requirements, you will have to register with you state's registration board.
  6. Check you e-mail for a confirmation notification from CLARB.  Keep this information for future reference.
  7. Download the L.A.R.E. Orientation Guide from the CLARB website.  The LARE Orientation guide contains a wealth of valuable information about taking the test.  The LARE Orientation guide includes information on the exam content, materials to bring, testing procedures, sample zoning codes, and other information used on the day of the test.  Print it out and review it a few times before the day of the LARE test.
  8. Prepare for the examination.
  9. Take the multiple choice sections (Section A, Section B, and Section D).
  10. Take the graphic exercise sections of the LARE.
  11. Pass all sections and celebrate your success.  You are now a registered landscape architect.
